Why not knowing is actually a good thing
🐝 Free Hive Field Trip: Navigating Uncertainty with Maggie Jackson (Sep 13)
If there’s one thing a community builder can be certain of, it’s uncertainty.
A community is a living, breathing, evolving thing. Just when you think you have it all figured out, things change.
You see, a community is rooted in its founder’s vision. But once you open the doors and let people inside, the dynamic changes.
You can influence the direction of the community as a whole, but your members have minds of their own. You can’t be sure what they’ll do next.
It’s thrilling. It’s unexpected. And it’s exactly where the magic happens.
If we can’t escape uncertainty, we might as well cozy up to it.
A few weeks ago, I told you about a fabulous book, Maggie Jackson’s “Uncertain: The Wisdom and Wonder of Being Unsure.”
When Maggie wrote that people shouldn’t fear uncertainty, but rather “a growing reluctance … to seek nuance, depth and perspective,” I felt like we were singing from the same songbook.
Imagine my surprise when Ms. Jackson herself engaged with one of my posts on LinkedIn. One thing led to another, and before you know it, we were planning an event together.
I am thrilled to invite you to come along on a Hive Field Trip to Third Nature for a lively discussion about navigating uncertainty with Maggie Jackson.
Even better,
of Third Nature will be there to co-host. Brian is one of the best facilitators of online conversations today. He’s wise, insightful, and inclusive. I recommend having a pen handy, because when Brian starts speaking, you never know what gems of wisdom he’ll have to share.
In this time of flux and angst, we need Maggie’s research-informed viewpoint, which embraces not knowing as a proven treatment for anxiety, a path to mental well-being, and a strategy to combat the polarization tearing our societies apart.
🐝 On this Field Trip, we'll explore:
• Embracing uncertainty in community building
• Fostering resilience in your community
• Using curiosity as a tool for growth
Uncertainty is a given. Facing it with the right mindset can equip us to dwell in possibility, where the answers to fast-changing problems are never far away.
By leaning into our uncertainty, we can find clarity and insight. I truly believe that in the near future, one’s ability to navigate while not knowing will be the skill that lets high-performers thrive.
This is a discussion, not a lecture. So come prepared to think, ponder, and engage. You’ll have space to reflect, laugh, and share as we explore together what it means to embrace uncertainty.
This event is totally free and open to Community Matters subscribers as well as to members of Third Nature and The Hive.
