Are you making space in your community for breakthroughs to happen?
We often talk about the ways we can help members make progress toward their goals. Today, I want to talk about addressing their needs on a deeper level.
Because progress isn’t all about knowledge and tactics. If your members are held back by fixed mindsets or limiting beliefs, they may remain stuck no matter what courses or workshops or rituals you offer them.
Here’s a story from my own community.
A few weeks ago, Hive member Robby Miles led an amazing workshop on email marketing. He revealed all the secrets of a stellar welcome sequence – what to say, when to send, and how to work the backend magic.
Anyone in that masterclass now has the knowledge they need to build a great welcome sequence.*
Fast-forward to a goal-setting workshop a few weeks later. As we wrapped up, I asked if anyone needed a pep talk or a little encouragement.
One brave member came forward and confessed she had FORTY emails drafted. 🤯
And not one sent.
She had the outline of what to say and when to send it. She knew how to get all her tech set up and working.
But when it came time to press “send,” her inner critic was telling her she wasn’t good enough.
That her message wasn’t important.
That her voice didn’t matter.
That no one cared.
No amount of learning could fix that.
If all your community offers its members is learning and workshops and masterclasses, you could be wearing yourself out without making a real impact.
Because while education is great for meeting members’ intellectual needs, to unlock real progress, you need to help them over their deeper subconscious hurdles.
As our member shared her fear, the group held space for her to speak the insecurity out loud. We listened without trying to solve.
The answer was already within her. She just needed the space and support to coax it out.
Fears tend to shrink and lose their power when they’re brought into the open – especially when people we trust speak words of encouragement against them.
So how can you build a safe environment that creates space for these kinds of breakthroughs?
1. Slow down.
Do less. Offer less. Give your members space to breathe, to have meandering conversations, to make real connections.
2. Create small spaces.
Use breakout rooms in your events. Give people opportunities to connect in groups of two and three. You don’t need to be a part of every conversation; create a system for people to connect one-on-one even outside your community hub.
3. Lead with vulnerability.
This is a big one. If you keep your cards close to your vest, it signals that members should do the same. When things are hard in my business, I share it. It tells my members they are not alone, creating an environment where it’s safe to admit their own hard times.
Breakthroughs aren’t easy. The path to them is scary and uncomfortable. But we can’t get to the next level of our journey without them.
Everything you want is just on the other side of fear,
