Community is all about relationships. One of my favorite things about what I do is the ah-MAZE-ing people I get to meet.
Today I want to introduce you to a friend I made last summer, Katie Allen.
Katie is the fabulously fashionable force behind Katie Just Styled. Through her podcast, Styled for Life, and her community, Style Squad, Katie is on a mission to not just make us all look good, but to make us feel good about our style.
This month, Style Squad is celebrating its first anniversary 🥳 and Katie is on a roll!
She’s embracing a new identity as the LinkedIn Style Queen, and celebrated last week by appearing as a featured speaker at the Success Alchemy Summit
She’s featured inside The Hive as this month’s Member Spotlight
On February 15, she’s hosting a LinkedIn Live event where she and Heartbeat Co-Founder and CEO Murtaza Bambot will talk about “Building a Paid, Profitable Community Business”
On February 21, she’s hosting an event called "Boost On Camera Confidence to Grow Your Community & Income" inside The Hearth, Heartbeat’s customer community. Click here to sign up for free.
But when Katie and I met last summer, she was in a different place. She had launched a community she loved, but six months in the excitement had turned to frustration.
Engagement was low. After a surge of new members who joined when she launched, membership flatlined – and it was starting to fall.
I helped Katie develop a customized Community Foundations program to identify why the Style Squad was struggling and what we could do to fix it.
Now here we are, six months later, celebrating her anniversary.
“Since we implemented our work together, the Style Squad has been on fire!” Katie said. “Our posts spark conversation, members are making connections, and there's so much good stuff happening. I actually love running my community now and that positive energy is contagious.”
Next, we’re working on growing the Style Squad. Katie has a big number in mind this year, and the way she’s going I think she can hit it!
But whether she hits that number this year or not, I’m so proud of her forward momentum. And so excited to see where she takes her community – and her business – next.
Katie’s struggles are not unique. Growth and engagement are the two most common challenges I hear from community founders.
But as her story shows, they’re not insurmountable. With the right mindset, strategy, and techniques, you can turn a slumping community into a thriving online space.
I believe in you!
