Are you building your community on shaky ground?
The most important work is the work no one sees
Foundations are not exactly glamorous.
Watch any one of those home renovation shows on TV. When a problem is discovered with the foundation, the designer is always heartbroken because it means money she wanted to spend on pretty finishes now has to go to underground repairs no one will ever see.
But they still make those repairs. Even on a show where aesthetics are everything.
Because while foundations aren’t glamorous, they are crucial. Without a strong one, all the pretty finishes and beautiful facades just crumble.
Communities are the same way. Like the designer obsessing over countertops and paint colors, founders want to put their energy into new members and member “engagement.”
Without a proper foundation, those things will crumble.
New members won’t stay if the community doesn’t fulfill the promise they expected it to. They come in, they leave, and you’re constantly recruiting but never growing.
Cheap engagement tricks like “Chat ‘I’m here’” or “Comment ‘I want it’” might prime an algorithm, but do nothing to promote the person-to-person connection members joined the community to find.
If members aren’t moving toward their goals, neither are you.
Before you can start worrying about your membership and engagement goals, you need a strong base in place to support them.
One of my most valuable services is Community Foundations, a comprehensive coaching program where we build your community strategy from the ground up.
While I love being able to give my clients one-on-one attention in that program, it limits how many communities I can help.
I wanted to make these possibilities available to more people, so… (drumroll please 🥁)
I’m excited to announce the first-ever Community Foundations Cohort!
I’ve taken all the elements from my one-on-one coaching program and adapted them to a group format. It’s designed to meet you where you are and help you to patch up the weak spots in your foundation – from little cracks to gaping holes.
You’ll be surprised to learn that once your base is solid, growth and engagement come more naturally, without you having to hustle so hard or resort to cheap tricks.
If you’re not sure what your community is missing – or you are sure and don’t know how to fix it – I hope you’ll check it out.
We build stronger together,
PS. Registration is now open for our kickoff in June. See what we’ll cover inside!
